He dares to floss with water
Loud rivers flush his teeth
carrying with them glass and dirt
As he sleeps, his mouth is the gate of freedom
The moon high-lights the water's escape
with its glow of ozone breath
The rivers flow in perfect spirals
meeting at the foot of a small mouse
quick paws nab at and grab
tiny insect morsels caught by the water's flow
The froth of a stream is
cracked by the mouse's paw
imitates the tree-branch lines of an injured glass pane.
A tooth escapes the bars of his braces and
dives into the water
taking the current of freedom.
The mouse leans forward and
seeing a trickle of color escape
from the arch of her legs
swallows from her cheeks
and falls
head forward
into the froth
