The Brochiuses had been having a tough time of it. This retired farming couple had been an active part of the community- keeping up the lawn, attending church, etc. Then Dorris got the cancer and, after that, Sam got MS. The yard stopped looking so nice- sometimes it'd be too long for a whole week before Sam got to cutting it. Then, they missed the yearly softball game against Red Lake. People were worried, but when the two missed church, they knew something was wrong. That something was that the Brochiuses were simply too sick. Now, their son has returned from Merton and he's such a nice boy.
Sam's a good man who loves to fish. He doesn't farm anymore, nor does he feel well. He feels better now that his boy's back, though. Sometimes, he likes to discuss old times.
Ever since their son returned, Dorris has resumed her part-time job at Cody's Smorgasborg. Dorris has never been one to be idle. It's not like she needs the money- her and Sam've got plenty squirreled away- she just likes to keep busy, that's all.
