Welcome! The Shelves is a the internet based game about empowerment. You, the reader, will have the power to control the life of an action-figure on or around my book-shelf. But not only that! By living your life vicariously through this action figure, you may also influence the imaginary lives of other action-figures which are controlled by other humans. This, in turn, may influence the lives of the other controlling humans. Those humans may then interact with other humans who are then similarly influenced.
Lest you be careless, however, please know! Not only is this power not to be utilized frivolously (despite the playful nature of the employed tools,) but The Shelves is also about imagination. You must not fully be yourself in marching towards your political goals. You must be a character who is not you and subtly propagate your agenda. Not only is that more fun, but people may be more likely to listen to you if they don't know that they're listening to you.
